“There’s no place like home” is a performative installation that consists of a series of objects that deal with the idea of home, what it takes to feel at home somewhere and what makes a home. This project is inspired by the famous statement from the film “The Wizard of Oz”: “There’s no place like home” and the clicking of Dorothy’s ruby slippers to get home. In this installation, the ruby slippers stand on a table surrounded by sand.
Description:
A table is equipped with a vibrating plate and an audio installation. The shoes move through vibration on the table after an audio clip from the film “The Wizard of Oz” is played. The work “There’s no place like home”, which has been on display in the Philara Collection, included two photographic works that show the muddy streets of the Garzweiler surface mine and stand in conceptual contrast to the yellow brick road that leads to the Emerald City in the film.
Opposite the photographs, in a room built by the artist herself, is a wall piece with a sand dispenser that is true to scale with the ones used to puncture big-bag packages when the sand is delivered from the gravel pits in North-Rhine Westphalia. Beneath the sand dispenser is a poem carved directly onto the wall of the installation, depicting the sand dispenser’s view of the world.
